How you can help

There are lots of ways you can get involved and help us to raise funds and awareness for our charity, here are just a few ideas

How do schools benefit from working together?

Supporting Hospice at Home West Cumbria through fundraising and awareness raising within school can support the learning and experiences of pupils in many ways.

  • Emphasising the importance of community and citizenship.

  • Highlighting career opportunities in our local area.

  • Providing volunteering opportunities for the completion of Duke of Edinburgh Awards and to support CV creation and UCAS applications.

  • Enriching health and social care studies by exploring hospice care and our services.

We will also help to raise the profile of your school, college or youth club by celebrating your support on our social media pages and website.

  • Supporting Hospice at Home is important as it has helped so many families in our area who have been affected by cancer. It is a way of giving back and sometimes that is all you can do against this awful disease. Our children learn how they can make a difference within the community and this is a great way of bringing people together.

  • At Orgill, we chose to support Hospice at Home West Cumbria because of the incredible care and support the charity provides to local families during some of the most difficult times in their lives. It is important to us that our pupils understand the value of helping others and making a positive difference within their community. Supporting the charity’s events has been a really positive experience for both the school and the children. The pupils enjoy taking part in fundraising activities such as the Mini Colour Runs and are always enthusiastic about getting involved. These opportunities help children to develop empathy, teamwork and a sense of responsibility, while also showing them how small actions can make a big impact.

  • Frizington Nursery School and Cleator Moor Nursery School chose to support Hospice at Home West Cumbria because it is a valuable local charity that provides care and support to vulnerable people and families within our community. By taking part in fundraising activities, our children develop a strong sense of community spirit and learn the importance of kindness, compassion, and helping others. Supporting such an important cause helps to teach our children from the earliest years about our fundamental British values, including respect, mutual support, and responsibility within the wider community. The children love getting involved in fun fundraising events, and they take great pride in knowing they are helping to make a difference for others.

  • In our school community and the wider school family, we have unfortunately had families who have used the services Hospice at Home West Cumbria offer, and as a general feeling across school, we recognise what vital work the charity does in our local area. We have participated in the annual Colour Run every year since it began! Our children and staff thoroughly enjoy this well-organised event and the smiles and camaraderie that it brings, especially when we see our youngest and oldest pupils running together, is a joy! Year 6 look forward to their special moment of running the last lap to end their time at primary school. We are proud to support Hospice at Home West Cumbria and hope to do so as a school for many years to come

Clare Hayes, EYFS Teacher and Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead, Jericho Primary School
