New bereavement cafe to launch in Cleator Moor.
Hospice at Home West Cumbria will be launching a new bereavement café in Cleator Moor from January 2025. The new bereavement café will be an addition to the two bereavement groups that the charity currently provides in Whitehaven and Cockermouth, offering a supportive space for individuals dealing with the loss of a loved one. These informal gatherings aim to provide comfort and companionship for those navigating the challenging journey of grief, offering a welcoming environment where individuals can share their experiences and find support from others who understand.
The bereavement cafes are designed to offer both emotional and practical support, with trained volunteers on hand to provide guidance and help people connect with others in similar situations. The first bereavement café in Cleator Moor will take place at St John’s Hall from January 2025, and are open to anyone who has experienced loss, regardless of whether they have received hospice care.
Claire Jenkinson, Family and Bereavement Services Team Leader, said: “We understand how isolating grief can be and we hope that these bereavement cafes will provide a place for individuals to find comfort, share stories and gain strength from one another. Grief is a personal journey, but it doesn’t have to be faced alone.”
Hospice at Home West Cumbria is also grateful to the Whitehaven Harbour Commissioner for lighting up The Wave in orange, in recognition of National Grief Awareness Week, which runs from the 2nd – 8th December 2024. This gesture helps to raise awareness of the impact of grief and highlights the importance of supporting those who are grieving. The orange light will serve as a beacon of hope and encouragement, helping to bring the community together in the shared understanding of loss.
Claire continued “The lighting of The Wave in orange is a beautiful tribute and a powerful visual reminder that grieving is something that affects us all, and that support and help is available.”
The bereavement cafés will be held on a regular basis, and all are welcome to attend. For more information about the cafes or learn more about the services provided by Hospice t Home West Cumbria, please visit www.hospiceathomewestcumbria.org.uk or call 01900 705200.
