Team effort: group Joins forces to raise funds for local charity – Hospice at Home West Cumbria

Hospice at Home West Cumbria is the only hospice charity providing at-home services in the region, providing care and support to patients and their families free of charge. The significant grant will fund 500 nights of dedicated home nursing care for 12 months, ensuring patients and their loved ones receive one-to-one support when they need it most.

Rachael McAllister, Home Nursing Team Leader, said:

This grant will have a direct impact on our ability to provide high quality specialist palliative and end of life care. The impact on the overnight support we provide is immeasurable - we offer compassionate care, ensuring individuals receive comfort, dignity and specialist attention during the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

It allows us to provide emotional support to patients and their loved ones, whilst ensuring patients are symptom free. This offers reassurance to patients and their families knowing that the highest standard of care is being provided. We are incredibly grateful to Sellafield Ltd for their generous support.”

Tracey West, Head of social impact at Sellafield Ltd said:

We sometimes find that core services that we need at some time in our lives are often run by local charities and third sector organisations. Hospice at home is no exception, this funding will enable them to provide home nursing care that is free at the point of need, ensuring families in West Cumbria can access compassionate, high-quality services when they need them most. By empowering charities and organisations through funding, we can help ensure the wellbeing of the people in our community remains a priority.

Hospice at Home West Cumbria relies on the kindness and generosity of businesses, individuals, and groups to maintain and develop its services. Whilst support is free to patients and their families, the charity needs to raise over £1.5 million every year from the local community to continue providing essential care. Each donation helps to ensure that patients can remain in the comfort of their own homes, surrounded by loved ones, pets, and things which are important to them.

Last year Hospice at Home West Cumbria provided 9,138 hours of home nursing care and supported 251 patients across the region.
