Hospice at Home West Cumbria have partnered with LMG Treks and Expeditions to offer guided overseas treks and challenges and in April 2027 Adrian Kevern from Whitehaven, and Christine Wilson from Cockermouth are taking on the huge challenge of tackling Everest Base Camp to raise money for charity in memory of their loved ones.
Adrian sadly lost his wife Tracey to multiple myeloma on Good Friday 2025. During her illness, both Adrian and Tracey received support from Hospice at Home West Cumbria through its holistic services.
The support they received had a lasting impact on Adrian. Adrian said:
Their support for Tracey was a great comfort to us and the group sessions I participated in have been a huge help. I feel greatly honoured to be doing this in memory of Tracey to support future care for individuals and families in West Cumbria.
Christine’s connection with Hospice at Home West Cumbria began following the death of her mam, Joan, in February 2017. During an incredibly difficult time, the charity supported Chris through bereavement support, helping her to navigate her grief and, ultimately, find her joy again.
Since then, Chris has continued to see the difference Hospice at Home West Cumbria makes within the local community. She has witnessed the care provided to her friends, family and loved ones over the years. These experiences have stayed with her.
Christine said:
This trek is my way of giving something back and helping ensure that Hospice at Home West Cumbria can continue to support families like mine and those I care so deeply about, right here at home. I believe that supporting hospice is about giving something back to our community and helping ensure that nobody has to face the end of their life without the care, comfort and support they deserve.
Adrian and I have been friends since we were colleagues some years ago. Completing this challenge with him in honour of his beloved Tracey and my beautiful mam Joan and raising a huge amount of money for Hospice at Home West Cumbria will make it an even more spectacular achievement.
