What is Hospice Care Week?
Hospice Care Week is a chance for all of us to champion hospice care nationwide. We’re applauding the incredible work that is being done to make sure everyone can benefit from the very best end of life care.
Hospice Care Week takes place from 5 - 11 October 2026. This year's theme is: Don't leave hospice care to chance.
With charitable income making up the majority of hospice funding, hospice care relies on the chance of local communities being able to fundraise enough – some can raise more than others.
On the wards, in the community, and in people’s homes across the UK, hospices look after people who need palliative and end of life care day in, day out. They work tirelessly to make sure that those people are comfortable and can live well in the time they have left.
But hospice care isn’t only about managing pain and symptoms. It is often about the things that make life better for the person and their family.
The things that someone might have once loved doing, but now struggles to because of their illness. Like going to their favourite café, seeing a sports match, taking a day trip to the beach, or even just getting out into their own garden.
Each year, Hospice at Home West Cumbria helps people at the end of their lives live well in the community, delivering care closer to home, keeping people out of hospital who do not need to be there – and letting many people be where they want to be, in the place they love most: their own home.
We are aiming to shine a light on all the services we provide out in the local community and in patient's homes.
We know our local communities do incredible things to support our services – from donating to shops, to running marathons. But Hospice at Home West Cumbria needs to raise 1.5million in fundraising in order for our services to continue.
We rely on our local community to help fund our vital services, letting people focus on living, right until the end.
Everyone deserves high-quality hospice care, whoever they are, and wherever they live. Demand for care is rising, and without your help we would be unable to provide our services for local people.
