Day 3 of Hospice Care Week 2019
Today we are celebrating our Lymphoedema care team.
What is Lymphoedema?
Lymphoedema is a long-term (chronic) condition that causes swelling in the body’s tissues. It can affect any part of the body, but usually develops in the arms or legs. It develops when the lymphatic system doesn’t work properly. Our team provide assessment, deliver appropriate treatments and support and advise the patient and their families and carers
But what does it take to provide our Lymphoedema services?
It takes… 3 dedicated individuals
It takes … 2,327 hours of nursing time
It takes… Approximately 500 bandages which equates to 2000 metres of bandage
It takes… 456 appointments at our Finkle Street treatment centre (2018/19)
It takes…185 lymphassist appointments, both in Finkle st and in patient’s homes
It takes… specialist training including hours of practical and theory assessments
We asked…’Why do you do what you do’?
‘Quite simply, I love what I do! I am extremely proud to work for Hospice at Home West Cumbria and find it an honour to provide care and support to all of our patients. I find the work I do uplifting, rewarding and life-affirming. I would not want to work anywhere else!’
