Hospice at Home West Cumbria (HHWC) is one of more than 200 charitable hospices across the UK taking part in Hospice Care Week (10 – 14 October) an awareness campaign led by the national hospice and end of life care charity, Hospice UK.

As part of Hospice Care Week, today we look at the role of one of our fantastic volunteers at the shops Donation Centre volunteers, Val Roscamp.

“I work in the Donation Centre two mornings a week. My duties include sorting through all the donations we receive and putting them into the appropriate boxes and bags for distribution to our shops. The donations are usually clothes, books, and bric-a-brac. Once all the donations are sorted, I take them to our Workington shop where they’re steamed and prepared before going out onto the shop floor.

As well as sorting the donations, I also answer customer queries on the phone and organise donation pick-ups and drop-offs.”
