We have been awarded a grant of £2,000 by the TSB Local Community Fund. The scheme, created to support current and past TSB Local Charity Partners, gives charities an opportunity to apply for funding for projects which are designed to help local people.

Our mission is to be at the heart of our local community, providing home nursing, emotional support, complementary therapies, and lymphoedema care when and where needed. Our services are provided for free to those who need them and this grant is gratefully welcomed.

The grant will be used to fund the charity’s Patient Support Volunteer (PSV) service, a vital outreach programme which provides social contact, friendship and emotional support for people with life limiting conditions. PSVs visit patients on a one-to-one basis in their own homes or alternative care setting and engage in a wide range of activities such as car rides in the countryside, going for coffee or shopping trips. For patients who are too unwell to travel, PSVs may sit with patients and watch TV, read together or share a hobby.

Lilian Simmonds, Senior Hospice Nurse said: “We are delighted to be given such a generous grant towards our Patient Volunteer Service . This grant will enable us to continue providing this valuable service, which means so much to our patients.

TSB Store CollectionThe TSB in Maryport is always keen to show their support for us and has made us their Charity of the Year 2019.  They very kindly allowed us to have an information and fundraising stall in their branch last week.

The event raised £205.34, this included £84 in raffle tickets for one of our Hospice Herd Highland Cows. Wray, pictured in the centre of this image, now has a new home. Many thanks to all of you who stopped to chat to our volunteers and buy jams, candles or made donations.

Every penny raised stays in West Cumbria to support our work caring for those with a life limiting illness and their families.
