The annual Britain Energy Coast Business Cluster Awards have become a prestigious event for businesses large and small working in West Cumbria. An  opportunity for businesses, social enterprises and local charities to showcase their work and celebrate their achievements.

We were delighted to be shortlisted and we are over the moon to win the Inspiring People Award 2018 .

Thirty firms were shortlisted for 10 categories and the awards ceremony was held at Energus, Lillyhall. Main event sponsor was Sellafield Ltd,

Gill Marsden, of NIS, sponsor and presenter of the Inspiring People Award, said: “NIS has sponsored this category for three years now and it is in some ways very easy and in some ways very hard. It’s easy because we’re surrounded by inspiring people every day and spoilt for choice on entries – the hard part is judging a winner!”

The award was accepted by Chair of Trustees Dr Robert Walker and Chief Executive Julie Monk. We were given tickets for the black tie dinner so four of our nursing staff were able to attend the awards held on Thursday 22nd November.

You can watch a video made for the event which shows some of the aspects of our work here

As an award this is a tremendous recognition for everyone working with Hospice. In his acceptance speech Dr Robert Walker said “ We have a really great staff of inspiring people who we are immensely proud of. What the video didn’t capture is that we are able to inspire over 200 loyal volunteers to work with us to deliver our values. I think some of our success is that we hold to values which in these troubled times get lost – compassion, caring, providing dignity at the end of life and bringing gentleness to bear. And we just try to be a nice place to work”
