This week we are promoting Lymphoedema Awareness Week to highlight the condition and the services we provide at Hospice at Home West Cumbria.

We would like to share with you a personal story from the lovely Jayne Graham, who works as a Healthcare Assistant within our Lymphoedema team.

Life with Lymphoedema

“In June 2019 I surprised my colleagues in the Lymphoedema team when they received a referral… for myself!

I had been having trouble with my lower legs and feet swelling for some years, mainly after flying or when it was really hot weather, but now, they were swelling all the time and getting worse by the end of the day, so I decided it was time to give my Lymphatics a helping hand.

How do I know about lymphatics? I work as a healthcare assistant for HHWC in the Lymphoedema team. Yep! I am a Lymphoedema Healthcare Assistant who has Lymphoedema.

It can help when I can show patients that I am wearing the garments they are so afraid of, I can explain to them how they help me and tell them it IS possible for life to carry on as ‘normal’ . I am able to do all the things I did before I was diagnosed with Lymphoedema, walk, swim, go on holiday and work in the same job that I love, all with the help and support of the fantastic Lymphoedema team.”
