Over the years Hospice at Home West Cumbria has become affectionately known as the “Hospice without Walls”. For more than 30 years we have provided services traditionally found in a hospice building in people’s homes and their local community.

The care is provided in the patient’s own home, a residential care home, nursing home or a community hospital. Many people wish to remain in their own home or close to their family and our home nurses allow them to do this.

Key outputs 2017 -2018

Our nurses provide one-to-one support, and they may stay overnight or for an agreed number of hours during the day. Our team is there every day and night, all year round, when and where we are needed in West Cumbria. The care provided will reflect the needs of the patient and their carers. We provide respite care as well as end of life care.

Supporting our nurses is a group of patient support volunteers who can provide support to patients on a one-to-one basis, in their own home or alternative care setting, providing social contact, friendship, emotional support and respite care for carers.

The figures in the infographic show the care we provided and the support we gave 2017-2018.
