Lynn McGaw is part of the home nursing team here at Hospice at Home West Cumbria and along with husband Ali, and daughter Bryony, they decided to take part in the ‘2.6 Challenge’.

Lynn said “We decided to do the challenge because in lockdown we were already taking advantage of a walk for our daily allowed exercise with our dogs so why not raise some money for Hospice at Home West Cumbria at the same time by pushing ourselves to do that little bit more. We most definitely did it as a family: myself, my husband Ali (who uses crutches to mobilise), our 10 year old daughter Bryony, and not forgetting the dogs Daisy & Buddy.  We were so lucky with the weather with only a few spots of rain on one day! We walked a different route every day and having to cover at least 2.6 miles daily has allowed us to discover walks accessible from our front door that we never knew existed, despite living here for 8 years. We covered almost 3.5 miles some days depending on the route.  We have definitely exceeded the 67.6 miles we had planned to do over the 26 days”

Lynn added, “I’m into my 4th year of working with Hospice at Home West Cumbria and feel as one of the registered nurses I’m not just an employee but an ambassador for all we do. As such, it’s important for myself and my family to do our bit to raise funds. I had planned to do this year’s KAPOW! again so with it being cancelled due to the restrictions imposed with Coronavirus, this has given us the opportunity to do something else instead”

Lynn used the Strava app to track their daily walks, and uploaded their daily routes and distances to her Just Giving page to show their supporters where they had been, even on the days between her night shifts! You can visit her fundraising page HERE

Thank you Lynn, Ali and Bryony!
