Just Giving pages are a great way to raise funds for Hospice at Home West Cumbria and it’s so easy to encourage others to support you.

You don’t necessarily have to be taking part in a sponsored event. You could just share your story and experience of Hospice at Home West Cumbria and encourage your friends, family and social media followers to support you by sharing the page and making a donation.

Last year on Just Giving, our supporters and their donors raised over £30,000 with over 100 pages set up to raise money on our behalf.  Activities ranged from head shaves to sky dives, sponsored runs to triathlons.  People also set up pages in memory of loved ones who are no longer with us.

Lauren Goodwin contacted us early on last year to say she was taking on the Ullswater 26 mile hike with friends and family after losing two grandparents in the space of 9 months. She set up her Just Giving page and was hopeful to do well but nothing could have prepared the group for raising £4,060!

“I wanted to do something for Hospice at Home West Cumbria. A few years ago we lost my grandma and grandad, within the space of nine months,” said Lauren, a software engineer at Sellafield.

“My grandad did not need hospice care but my grandma was at home for the last few months of her life. We could not have coped without Hospice, especially in the last week,” she said.

“It’s the worst time of your life and hospice takes some of the pressure off the family. It’s just amazing what they do. The nurses are the most caring women and did whatever we wanted.”

Word got out that the family were doing a sponsored walk, taking in the Ullswater Way and Dalemain Loop.

“People started asking if they could join in and it went from there,” said Lauren.

In the end the group was 24 people strong and they all ended the hike together at Pooley Bridge with well deserved refreshments!
