Jade Fidler is undertaking two challenges this summer to raise funds for Hospice at Home West Cumbria in memory and thanksgiving for the support and care we gave to her niece Katie Flagg, of Cockermouth, who was just 31 years old when she died in 2017.

Her first challenge is having her long hair shaved off on Wednesday 1st May, whilst Jade is nervous about the big cut she feels sure her niece would be supportive of her determination to ensure we can continue to provide care to support other people who need us. As well as raising money for us through sponsorship, Jade will also be giving her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs to children and young adults who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other illnesses.

Jades other big challenge is taking on our KAPOW! Superhero Challenge on Saturday 6th July at Cockermouth Rugby Club. Joining Jade in this challenge is her great niece, Eva Sands, Katie’s daughter. Jade tells us, that both she and Eva are very excited about the event. Eva is looking forward to raising sponsorship for Hospice at Home West Cumbria, as a thank you for the care they gave to her mum.

Jade tells us: “The care and support Katie received from Hospice at Home West Cumbria made a big difference to the quality of her life. My family will be eternally grateful for the comfort the nurses from Hospice showed Katie in her final months. They were exceptional in their care and love, staying up all night to talk to Katie and stroking her hair and hands, nothing was too much trouble. I never got to say goodbye properly to Katie, as she passed away while I was travelling for 18 months in South America. I hope she would be proud of me.

Originally from Eckington, Sheffield, Jade lives in Derby and is a service manager for Lifeways Community Care. Providing support services for people with complex needs in community settings. The team there are supporting her challenge too.
