Today marks the start of National Carers Week 2020 and the theme of this week is to ‘Make Caring Visible’

The week runs from 8th-14th June and is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make. It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities, to identify as carers and access much needed support.

Did you know there are over 6.5 million carers in the UK?

At Hospice at Home West Cumbria, our Family and Bereavement Support team help people who are caring for loved ones with life limiting conditions, and also offer bereavement support to them after their loved one has died.

We know it’s not always easy for carers to know where to access advice and information, or find out how they can receive support as often their time is taken up by their caring role.

Carers are also continuing to face new challenges as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and many people including existing carers are taking on caring responsibilities for the relatives who are disabled, ill or elderly who need additional support.

You can find advice HERE on looking after someone. There is a wide range of information about accessing support, getting advice about work and finances and advice for looking after yourself as a carer. This includes tips on eating well, getting enough sleep and speaking to others.

Please click HERE to access a fact sheet that provides information for carers of all ages and lists the support available to them.

If you have any questions about caring for a loved one who has a life limiting condition, please contact our Family & Bereavement Support team on 01900 705200.
