United Utilities are offering the people of West Cumbria the opportunity to raise thousands of pounds for Hospice at Home West Cumbria, just by using a little less water each day.

If each person could save 15 litres a day by the end of July, United Utilities will donate £25,000 to our charity.

As we have had to cancel many of our annual fundraising events, and our charity shops are still closed, this will go a long way towards helping us bridge the huge gap in our income.

Since the Coronavirus outbreak and the government’s advice around social distancing, everyone is spending much more time at home. This, along with the lovely warm weather we’ve recently been enjoying, means it has created an extra demand for water. Millions of extra litres have been used in West Cumbria every day, which has caused some issues around water pressure and supply to meet the extra demand.

If everyone in West Cumbria can make a conscious effort to use their water more wisely and reduce their usage by 15 litres a day, this will help United Utilities to save 150 million litres over the next few months.

Something as simple as turning off the tap when you brush your teeth will help to save around six litres a minute! Or if every member of a family of four spent one minute less in the shower, they could save around 36 litres of water a day!

United Utilities offer lots of great advice and FREE water saving products to help you and your family save water and reduce your bills. Making these small changes will make a huge difference to Hospice at Home West Cumbria. Please, do what you can and help us reach our target.
