Brendon Cook, Chair (2019)
Brendon has transitioned from a career in banking throughout the UK to undertaking contract roles in financial services specialising in managing Conduct and Operational Risk and Financial Crime. Away from work, Brendon has been involved in a number of voluntary activities over the years. He was one of the youngest Hospice Movement treasurers at the age of 26 at Rossendale Hospice and he was Treasurer of BASICS (British Association for Immediate Care), in Allerdale. Brendon has been a Chairman of the Cockermouth Round Table and 41 Club and he remains a member of the 41 Club. He is also a past Governor of St Joseph’s Primary School and Cockermouth School.
Joanne Bowe (2014)
Chair of HR and Governance Committee
Joanne is an HR professional who has recently retired and has over 35 years’ experience from within the nuclear industry. Her particular skills and experience cover HR, Shared Business Services and People Management. Joanne lives in Cockermouth.
Sarah Taylor-Howe (2018)
Chair of Clinical Governance Committee
Sarah is a Senior Manager with Cumbria Health on Call, having previously worked for the local Primary Care Trust. Sarah has a BA (Hons) in Business Management and has recently gained a Masters in Leadership and Management at distinction grade. Sarah is experienced in a wide remit of business functions such as governance, CQC regulations, mock CQC inspections, rota management, examination of new business opportunities and growth through innovation. She has a passion about health services within Cumbria, seeing many changes and consequently understands first-hand the challenges faced. Sarah lives in Renwick, Eden Valley.
Sian Beaty (2018)
Chair of Marketing and Income Generation Committee
Sian is an Independent Nuclear Consultant, and brings business expertise and networks to HHWC. Sian lives in Gosforth, West Cumbria.
Barbara Stephens (2019)
Originally an engineer in industry, Barbara moved to Workington to run the West Cumbria Development Agency. When she was made redundant, she continued to live in Workington, while commuting to London weekly for 16 years until she retired. On retirement, she started volunteering for Hospice, as a receptionist and latterly in the pop-up shop. Throughout her career, she has held trustee and non-executive director posts in a range of organisations, and has particular experience on finance committees and governance.
David Harper (2019)
Chair of Finance, Audit and Risk Committee
David is a Chartered Accountant and partner at Gibbons Accountants based in Maryport. Born and bred in Cumbria he now lives in Cockermouth with his wife and children. He was inspired to join the board by the vision and activities of Hospice at Home West Cumbria and the benefit the charity brings to the West Cumbria community. David brings his accounts and audit experience in the charitable sector to the board.
Dr Fayyaz Chaudhri (2020)
Fayyaz has worked for 25 years as a GP in Maryport and since 2013 has been providing community based NHS dermatology services for the whole of North Cumbria. Fayyaz is passionate about community based, out of hospital care, and is keen to support Hospice at Home West Cumbria with his clinical background and knowledge of healthcare services. Fayyaz is married with three grown-up children and two grandchildren. He enjoys walking on the fells, cycling and travelling.
Mhairi Walker (2020)
Mhairi is a Nurse Practitioner currently working in primary care in Cockermouth. She has spent the majority of her career training and working as a Nurse for Marie Curie Hospice in Newcastle which sparked Mhairi’s passion for exceptional palliative care. Mhairi has an MSc in Advanced Nursing Practice, specialising in Palliative care.
Amy Lewthwaite (2020)
Amy is a Project Management Professional at BAE Systems Submarines, she joined the Board after being inspired by the crucial support Hospice at Home West Cumbria provides to the local community. Recognised and certified by the Chartered Management Institute and Association for Project Management, Amy brings experience from both the public and private sectors.
