Our Vision

All people in West Cumbria have timely access to personalised high quality palliative and end of life care.

Our Mission

To be at the heart of our community and provide Home Nursing, Emotional Support, Complementary Therapies, and Lymphoedema Care when and where needed.

Who We Are

Hospice at Home West Cumbria provides high quality, palliative and end of life care to people living in West Cumbria. We are the only provider of adult hospice services in this area. This means that all funds raised by local people help us to provide care for those in need within their own community.

Established in 1987 we have been nationally and internationally recognised as delivering an excellent model for home based palliative and end of life care.

What We Do

Home Nursing is at the heart of Hospice at Home West Cumbria. We provide skilled nursing care on a one-to-one basis to adults within their own home or alternative residential settings, enabling them to remain in their chosen place of care at end of life.

We deliver a range of Family and Bereavement Support Services for families, carers and those bereaved; these include one-to-one support, group support and complementary therapy. This support enables people to cope during the most difficult and challenging times in their lives.

We are also the sole providers of Specialist Lymphoedema Care in West Cumbria. This is a particularly challenging condition that affects many people. It can be as a result of cancer or cancer treatment but it can also be caused by other non-cancer related conditions.

Our care and support is available to those with a life limiting illness, regardless of cause, and is offered for free at the point of need.

Our Charter

Hospice at Home West Cumbria welcome hearing from our patients, their loved ones and people who are bereaved. Their experiences help us to learn what we do well and any improvements we can make to our care and support for people with a life limiting illness and their loved ones.

In order to really understand people’s experiences and if we are meeting the people of West Cumbria’s end of life and bereavement needs, we have developed a set of promises that we are making to every adult within our community.

These promises make up our new charter and were developed by a group of passionate people including patients, their loved ones and those bereaved who have experience of our services, as well as volunteers and staff members. We welcomed the opportunity to be guided by Health Watch Cumbria.

As well as the promises we asked ‘What does Hospice at Home West Cumbria mean to you?’ and Eric, a patient, summed it up by saying, ‘Hospice at Home West Cumbria gives you a choice of supportive help through your journey with care and compassion.’

We want to share our promises with every person in West Cumbria, helping them to know, that at a difficult time, when facing illness and loss Hospice at Home West Cumbria is here to offer support and care.

Thank you for reading our charter and please share with family and friends.
