Lymphoedema Care

Lymphoedema is a chronic condition where excess fluid is retained in bodily tissues causing painful swelling. Common causes can include cancer and its associated treatments, trauma, infection, vascular disease, reduced mobility and obesity.

Hospice at Home West Cumbria has a long established, specialist lymphoedema service which provides assessment, delivers appropriate treatments and offers support and advice to patients, their families and carers. The organisation is vital to the area as currently the NHS does not provide lymphoedema services in West Cumbria.

There are regular lymphoedema clinics held at the West Cumberland Hospital (Whitehaven) and our treatment centre at 10 Finkle Street (Workington). Home visits can be arranged for housebound and/or palliative patients. Access to the service requires a referral from your GP or another healthcare professional involved in your care.

If you would like any further advice about this service please call Hospice at Home West Cumbria, Workington Community Hospital on 01900 705200.
