SUCCESS FOR HOSPICE AT HOME WEST CUMBRIA’S SECOND 5K RUN

Throughout 2017 Hospice at Home West Cumbria are celebrating 30 years of caring in the local community. To mark this fantastic milestone there are a number of events planned to bring the public together to raise vital funds to support the services hospice provide.

On Wednesday 12 July the second of Hospice at Home West Cumbria’s 5K road races took place at Eaglesfield, near Cockermouth. Organised by the charity, with tremendous support from Sam Ayers of BodyFit Cumbria, the race was also planned for participants to run in memory of local man Kevin Williams.

Sam Ayers of BodyFit Cumbria said, Kev lost his battle with cancer in November 2016.  As well as being a great family man, he had two passions in life; music and running.  He could be found spinning the discs and keeping people on the dance floor in many local clubs and then out running the roads and trails in order to keep fit and healthy.  A great combination and an example to us all!”

Stella Walsh, Fundraiser for HHWC said, “We are delighted with the success of the 5k runs, the support from both runners and volunteers has been fantastic. I’d like to thank everyone who has been involved with these events either by taking part and running, or by supporting in any other way. Special thank you to Sam Ayers who’s direction and support has been vital in organising these events, New Balance for their sponsorship support, Eaglesfield Paddle School for allowing us to use their facilities and to Caterite for the cakes and bakes.

Andrew Oglanby from Dearham who volunteered at both events said “It’s been a great night with a really friendly atmosphere and exceptional staff and volunteers. A really well organised event. I’m looking forward to helping out at future hospice runs”.

Prizes were kindly donated by New Balance and were awarded on the night to the winner of each age category.

All funds raised from this event through entry fees and sponsorship money will help Hospice at Home West Cumbria carry on providing high quality palliative and end of life care services, FREE of charge to the local community. Hospice would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone for turning out and making a success of the run!
