Chris Carruthers who oversees the charity and community work that the Sellafield graduates, apprentices and trainees provide in the local community said, “we have provided support to a number of charities over the last few years and Hospice at Home West Cumbria was the chosen charity for 2017, we set ourselves the target of achieving as much as possible for a fantastic cause”.

“We encourage the students to get involved with charity and community work which provides them with an insight of what great work the charities do in the local community. I provide support and guidance to the group but the majority of the work is carried out by them.”

“A special thanks goes out to Gen2 our training provider for their valuable support and to everyone else who has contributed in raising a fantastic amount for the charity this year.”

Courtney Goodwin, a trainee for Sellafield Ltd said, “one of the best things about the whole process was when we were invited to meet some of Hospice at Home West Cumbria’s staff, and to see the facilities they have at their Therapy Resource and Information Centre, based locally in Workington town centre. It was really interesting to hear about all the services hospice provides, I never knew it had three main service streams that includes home nursing, lymphoedema care and family and bereavement support.”

Emma Perry, Sellafield Ltd graduate said, “We’d just like to thank everyone who have helped us raise such a fantastic total. Thank you to each and every one of you and to those who went out of their way to organise their own events. I’m really looking forward to being involved in the fundraising process this year.”

Ryan Smith, E&I apprentice said, “it was great to be able to fundraise for a local charity knowing how much they need to raise annually, and to know that every single penny raised will stay in West Cumbria supporting local people.”

Hospice at Home West Cumbria CEO, Linda Hewitt said “We are delighted to receive such a fantastic amount, the support from Sellafield Ltd’s apprentices, graduates and trainees has been fantastic. I’d like to thank everyone who has been involved, a special thanks to Chris Carruthers whose direction and support has been vital in the organisation of the fundraising events and activities across 2017.”
