SUPERSTAR RUNNERS ADDED A SPLASH OF COLOUR TO THEIR LIVES
HUNDREDS of people were doused in powder paint as they took part in the fourth Colour Run in aid of Hospice at Home West Cumbria.
Close to 900 runners began the event dressed in gleaming white before being covered from top to toe by volunteer paint throwers throughout the course. They completed either a 1k or 5k route around Muncaster Castle in glorious sunshine yesterday, with the charity CEO, Linda Hewitt saying they hope the event will raise in access of £30,000.
Diane Maxwell, age 35 from Frizington was just one of the participants completing the 5k course and said, “We’ve all had an absolutely fantastic day. There are 9 of us in our team, 3 adults and 6 children and we didn’t really know what to expect, but we’ve all had a great time taking part in all of the activities, keeping us and the kids entertained all day!”
Cameron Fitzpatrick, age 4 from Crosby said, “I couldn’t run very fast, but had lots of fun.”
Cadence Dawes, age 7 from Workington said, “Running through the clouds of colour was so much fun, I finished the race covered in yellow and looked like Lisa Simpson.”
Hospice at Home West Cumbria relies heavily on fundraising events supported by the local community such as the Colour Run. Every year their vital services cost more than £1.2million, and only a quarter of this comes from the NHS – the remainder has to be raised through their fundraising activities and retail shops.
The money raised by the Colour Run participants will help Hospice at Home West Cumbria continue to provide the highest standards of care and support to patients, carers and families affected by a life-limiting illness.
Stella Walsh, fundraiser at Hospice at Home West Cumbria, said “I am thrilled with the success of this year’s Colour Run, the whole day was a buzz of excitement from start to finish, we have had lots of great feedback and I definitely think it has been our best one yet! A huge thank you to each and every one of our Colour Run supporters, this includes, volunteers, staff, spectators and of course all our wonderful runners.”
Linda Hewitt, CEO at Hospice at Home West Cumbria said, “The Hospice at Home West Cumbria Colour Run has been a phenomenal success and my thanks go to every single member of the Marketing and Income Generation Team for their superb organisation and co-ordination leading up to the event and their tireless energy on the day.
I would like to say a special thank you to all the Hospice volunteers, new and old, who came out in force to make the day such a success and all other Hospice staff who volunteered their time to help out on the day.
Finally, on behalf of everyone at Hospice at Home West Cumbria, I would like to say a special thank you to Peter and Iona Frost-Pennington for their generosity and hospitality in allowing us to use Muncaster Castle, because without them the event would not be the same.”
On behalf of patients, their families, volunteers and staff, Hospice at Home West Cumbria would like to thank the community of Cumbria for coming together and supporting their local hospice.
Fundraising totals will be announced soon.
