How much does it cost to enter?

The cost of entry is £15 per person. Your entry fee covers the cost of your participation in the event, your Moonlight Memories Walk t-shirt, bag, medal and snack. All sponsorship money you raise and any donations will go directly to helping our patients, carers and family members affected by a life limiting illness.

Where does the walk go?

The walk follows a six mile route, starting and finishing at the Tesco Supermarket car park along well-lit paved roads through Whitehaven town centre and residential areas.

Will it be safe?

Yes! Your safety is of utmost importance to us and we will take every precaution possible to ensure your safety on the night. The route will be well marshalled by volunteers, supported by St John’s Ambulance and Whitehaven First Responders.

How long will it take?

The walk should take between 2 – 4 hours, but there is certainly no rush and we encourage walkers to go at their own comfortable pace.

How old do you need to be to take part?

You need to be age 14 years or over on the night – 6th October 2017. Any walker between the ages of 14 and 17 must have their registration form signed by a guardian who is 18 years or over. The guardian must also be registered to take part in the walk and must accompany the walker. Each guardian can only be responsible for three under 18 year olds and all 14-17 year olds and guardian forms must be sent together/completed at the same time.

Are there toilets available?

Toilets will be available in Tesco car park the start and at various locations along the route.

Do I need to be fit?

A 6 mile walk is an achievable distance for all ages and abilities, however some training before the event will ensure you can relax on the night and enjoy the experience even more. All participants are responsible for their own medical conditions – please make sure you note down any medical conditions on the back of your walker number and wear it on the night.

If you are in any doubt about your ability to finish the Moonlight Memories Walk, please consult your doctor prior to commencing your exercise programme.

Will there be any refreshments?

There will be a water station on route at the half way point and you will receive a bottle of water and a snack in your MMW bag.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, as long as dogs are kept on leads at all times and are comfortable within large crowds.

How much sponsorship do I have to raise?

We do not ask for minimum sponsorship amount only that in taking a valuable place in the walk you do your best for a very worthwhile cause. The cost of registering for the walk only covers our costs, so we do hope you will support us by fundraising as much as you can to make the walk a success!

How can I get sponsorship?

We will provide you with a sponsor form in your registration pack and suggest you ask everyone you know to support you. Remind them to tick the gift aid box if they are eligible. We also suggest you set up an online fundraising page via Just Giving. This is a safe way for people to donate with a credit/debit card. You can create individual pages that link to a team page, and enter a memorial if you are walking in memory of a loved one. The link is easy to share on social media and emails.

Get social – use Social Media to promote your event, both Facebook and Twitter have Just Giving integration and are the ideal platforms to promote your fundraising, using the hashtag #MMWforHHWC

Who is eligible to tick the gift aid box?

If the person sponsoring you is a UK tax payer or pays Capital Gains Tax then you can make the donation worth even more. For every £1 you give to us we can claim an extra 25p.

Is the route suitable for wheelchairs?

The route follows paved areas/roads that are suitable for wheelchairs.

Do I need special clothing or footwear?

Your beautiful bright Moonlight Memories Walk t-shirt; this can be customised and personalised as you wish, there will be a prize for the most innovative design! Please wear sensible comfortable footwear that you have worn before e.g. trainers and avoid unsuitable footwear such as sandals or slip on shoes. We would love you to wear your Moonlight Memories Walk t-shirt for training prior to the event to raise awareness and encourage others to take part.

Will there be parking on the night?

Unfortunately there will be no pre-arranged parking available on the night. We advise that walkers are dropped off or car share if possible to avoid congestion. NO parking will be available at Tesco Supermarket. Alternative car parks are situated nearby https://en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/whitehaven/?arriving=201708021030&leaving=201708021230

What is included in my sign up pack?
